Howanchor uses, other transportation connections, and parking plans hasand will truly shape development of Tysons Corner

Backin 1950s, Tysons was a remote place within Fairfax Countycharacterized by undeveloped roads and very few commercial stores.According to FairfaxCounty Comprehensive Plan 2013, the transformation of Tysons Cornercommenced from 1960s, when a big regional shopping centre wasdeveloped paving way for the area to grow into a significantcommercial centre (2). During this period of time, a Capital Beltwaywas put up opening Tysons Corner to so many investors. A road toaccess Dulles Airport was constructed during the same period of timemaking the place accessible through air transport which greatlyimpacted on the development of the area as a big commercial andrecreational centre (Mullins, par.5). With improvement ofinfrastructure, Tysons Corner became a point of attraction not onlyfor investors but also the government which established severalheadquarters and other important national organizations.

TysonsCorner characterized by many prominent offices, headquarters andlarge shopping malls, had a chance to benefit from the constructionof the Metrorail’s Silver Line last year, which further made thearea more accessible to investors, who additional developed theplace. The rail line linked the East Falls Church and the DullesInternational Airport. During the same time in 2014, Four Metrostations became functional and they connected so many areas of TysonsCorner, thus making it easier to develop the place. The creation ofthe Metrorail converted Tysons Corner from a small city into a realurban centre for the county. The transportation system within TysonsCorner has developed to be a high-technology road and rail networkwith quality amenities for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Thetransportation connections have linked the existing facilities suchas parks, open spaces and valley parks transforming Tysons Cornerinto one of the best places for workers investors, residents andvisitors (Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan, 12).

Accordingto Mullins, by the year 2000, Tysons development had attracted somany people and investments to a level that the area was becomingcongested (paragraph, 2). As a result, major plans had to beimplemented in order to reduce the congestion, and one of these planswas construction of spacious parking lots. Currently, Tysons Corneris characterized with the prominent parking facilities with bigoffices having spacious parks to accommodate over 1000 vehicles. Theparking plans which have been implemented in Tysons Corner has notonly eased congested but also made the place a better place formotorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Accordingto the FairfaxCounty Comprehensive Plan 2013, a key feature of the futuretransportation plans of Tysons Corner is the constructions of atransit Circulator System (6). The circulator system is intended toconnect the Metro stations to so many other areas within Tysons. Thesystem which will be developed in for phases will render a long-termtransient service which will further improve the transportationconnections within the area. It is believed that the effectiveimplementation of transportations connections will make Tysons even abetter place for all the people in the future. The current plansfocuses on creating an urban setting which is people-oriented. TheCounty committee in charge of transportation plan implementationbelieves that, by redesigning the transport network to focus ontransit, it will develop a model transportation system within Tysonswhich will offer varied and easily reached transportation choices.
