Fryet al. (2014) is a report on a qualitative study. The research is aneffort to comprehend the outcome of the oseltamivir medication whenthe medication is administered within a five-day period since theonset of the initial symptoms. As such, the findings acquired comefrom the analysis of diverse factors. Besides, the study deducts theresults after analyzing diverse factors. For instance, the researcherin this case considers the efficiency of the drug when it isadministered between the first and fifth day after influenza symptomsappear.
Thearticle has used a case study qualitative research design. Controlledevaluations are conducted on patients who are administered with thedrug on varied days after the initial influenza symptoms appear, andthen the efficiency of the oseltamivir regimen is determined on eachpatient. The research focuses on a small population from Kamalapur,who have tested positive for the rapid influenza virus. Theinvestigators deliberately restrict the study subjects intocategories based on the infection period (Fry et al., 2014).
Thecase study design is suitable for the investigation because theresearchers derive the required data from a predetermined context. Assuch, the results are based on the plausibility of theirinterpretations instead of the truth of the findings (Maxwell, 2012).
Theinvestigation addressed ethical issues through the use of acontrolled study that ensured to prevent bias in the resultsacquired. Second, the research ensured to keep the identity of theparticipating patients secret. Finally, the findings are safelyarchived with a credible government institution –“ClinicalTrials.gov” (Fry et al., 2014).
Incase the same study was conducted using quantitative research design,the interpretations of the findings would be different because thefindings will generalize the results instead of determining theoutcome of specific patients (Fry et al., 2014). As such, theresults will only indicate that Oseltamivir regimen is efficient fortreating both the virus and symptoms of the rapid influenza infectionbecause it quantifies data into applicable statistics (Wyse, 2011).
