RorschachInkblot Method refers a psychological test that uses the perceptionof the subject on ten inkblots to develop his profile. Theperceptions are recorded and analyzed using a wide range of methodsto identify emotional functioning and personality characteristics ofa subject. One of the most common applications of Rorschach InkblotMethod has been in the diagnosis of thought disorders among subjectswho are not willing to discuss their thinking with the psychologistsopenly. The test which contains ten inkblots, five colored and fiveblack and white was developed by a Swish psychologists HermannRorschach in 1921. The test is named after him. In the 1940s and1950s, was widely used in clinicalpsychology. However, more used of the wasevident in the 1960s where it became the most important and widelyused projective tests in mental health facilities (Choca, 2013).

Thereis no doubt that remains one of the greatestthoughts in the practice of psychology. Although the test may seemsimple and easy from a description, it requires a lot of training andexperience to perfectly use in a subject or subjects. The RorschachInkblot Method consists of a set of cards containing inkblotspictures folded over creating mirror images. During the test, thesubject being tested is shown the inkblot one at a time and his orher mind allowed to work hard and impose a meaning to the image. Thepsychologist uses the response of the subject to develop a profile ofthe subject. This is based on the understanding by talking about whatthey are able to see on the inkblot, the subject is talking aboutthemselves. This enables the psychologist to figure out the meaningof the real world to the individual. The test can be administered toone subject or a group of subjects. The interpretation of theresponse is complex and requires adequate knowledge of the differentpersonality dynamic. can effectively be usedas a problem solving tool in psychology because it plays an importantrole in understanding the subject past behavior as well as predictionfuture actions (Choca, 2013).

However,there are several controversies that are associated with the use of. This is mainly because it is significantlydifficult for scholars to systematically study and analyze the testand its results. Additionally, the fact that there are multiplescoring systems in the test has resulted into an argument that thetest is confusing. This has resulted into criticism on the validityof the method. The question of validity has been associated with whatthe method basically tests. Initially, the method was used as ameasure of disordered thinking among mentally ill individuals.However, the increased used of the method in testing personalitieshas been criticized. Psychologists have also argued that the results into the psychologist projecting hisown unconscious world in the interpretation of the subject inkblotsresponses. For example, when a subject sees an image of a bra in theinkblots, the interpretation of the testing psychologist may bedifferent. To a man psychologist, the image of a bra may be anindication of a sexual response, while to a female psychologists itmay be nothing more than a piece of clothing. As a result,psychologists can come up with different personality of the sameindividual using the . Another concern thathas been raised on the validity of as apsychological tool has been the fact that the questions and themethod in general is in the public domain. is highly published and thus there is likelihood that the individualbeing tested has had previous exposure to the questions or theinkblots. This has an influence on the response to the questionsasked. The inkblots and other materials used in the tests has been inthe public domain for almost a century. This is arguably the mostimportant argument criticizing (Choca,2013).
