Part2 Impact of Technology Report (Interview)

Thetechnological advancement and revolution have impacted almost eachand every sector that affect’s human. The hotel and hospitalityindustry has been one of the beneficiaries of such technologyrevolution. Mr. ‘Salvoo’ has been in the hospitality industry foralmost two decades now. He has worked in different one of them beingEncantadaBoutique Hotelin Mexico City. Having spent such time in the hospitality sector as amanager, he has experienced tremendous within the sector (Keown,2013). After interviewing him for some time, he revealed to me thetechnology changes in the world has tremendous impacted thehospitality and tourism industry. In other words, technology has beenone of the greatest tools affecting the hospitality industries(Fauzi, Hussain &amp Mahoney, 2011).

Oneof the positive impacts of technology advancement in the industry isthat, it has been a cost effective as it improves the process ofdoing things such as communication, advertisement, as well asdevising new ways of accomplishing tasks. With the implementation ofhotel/property management system, the adoption of technology has madethe management easy, and effective. For example, he indicated to methat, at the time he was getting into the management, people used tocall and book, for places, and sometimes, the phones were noteffective. With the adoption of the internet as well as itsintegration into the hospitality industry, aspects such ascommunication have been much more effective, as people can book foraccommodation from any part of the globe.

However, despite the positive aspects of technology development in theindustry, the development has somewhat been a disadvantage. One ofthe demerits is that, technology within the hospitality industry hasled to loss of jobs as people has been replaced by the devised toolwhich performed better and effectively than human. On the other hand, the industry has become over dependent on the technology tool in themodern times.

Salvoonoted to me that, the company has been on the forefront in theimplementation of the POS system among other technologies. Thisadoption has tremendously made his job easier such as processing ofvisitors’ requests on time. According to him, the system providessolution in addition to making his work easier, effectivecommunication as well as an effective track of the operations.Despite solving the problem, the system has posed a problem as itrequires specialized personnel, maintenance (Fauzi, Hussain &ampMahoney, 2011). Technology has greatly impacted daily operations inthe hospitality industry with much of the operation is dependent onit.

Inconclusion, it’s clearly evident that, technology has had a massiveimpact on the sector of hospitality with numerous and endless relatedadvantages. In terms of marketing, the technology advancement has ledto improvement in the sector despite the related shortcomings.Property management system has been a revolution I the sector, withthe modern management depending on it
